An archive display of documents telling the stories of some of the Royal Society Fellows recorded in the MOSI archives.
In 1899, British Westinghouse Electrical & Manufacturing Company set up its factory in Trafford Park. The same year, the company sponsored forty young men to receive training in science and engineering in the United States of America. The success of this project led the company to set up the UK’s first dedicated works school in 1914, drawing in talented young men to undertake apprenticeships with the company. These early trainees went on to conduct important scientific and engineering research in universities and with other companies around the UK. In recognition of their achievements, a number of them became Fellows of The Royal Society. Join MOSI in celebrating 350 years of the Royal Society with this autumn’s archive display, which tells the stories of some of these talented young men.
