AAC 2008 Event Details

British craft of thatching

9th of April, 2008

The traditional British craft of thatching was practiced in virtually every rural community and has existed in one form or another since the Bronze Age. As a skilled trade and with many regional variations the life of a thatcher was varied from topping out hayricks at harvest time to skilfully thatching the local manor house. The talk examines the way in which thatchers worked and some of the records in which evidence of the thatcher can be found. A one-hour lecture with Ian Waller £5.00

Open: Tues-Sat, 10-6
