Course: My Ancestor was a Blacksmith

9th of August, 2008

One of the many village trades was that of a blacksmith. They did varied jobs from making gates for the local manner to shoeing horses although the latter was really that of a farrier. Most towns and villages had a local forge (or two!) and as such many of us will have blacksmith ancestors. The lecture describes the occupation and what records can help in undertaking historical research. A half-day course with Ian Waller, 2-5pm, £15.00, must be pre-booked

Open: 10-6 Tue-Sat, 10-8 Thur
Admission Fee: varies
